My Nightstand and My Bookshelf
When I wake up from mid-day naps
You're always there beside me
You hold my clock, and books, and watch,
Laptop, phone, ipod, and whatever else I give you
Ready to give any of them back whenever I need them
Without a complaint, or even a squeak
Well, sometimes, you DO squeak, but that is okay, because
If ever I need a distraction from life,
Or directions to find my way back into my life
You always have the right book for me
If I ever need a place to unload all my pockets
Your drawers and your compartment beneath your drawers
Or your smooth wooden top
Always seem to have room for more
And on those rare occasions
When my alarm clock falls off and crashes on the floor
Or your drawer doesn't shut
Or everything stuffed behind your door
explodes onto the rug
I still love you
Don't worry about those times
They are mostly my fault
Not yours
